The Ultimate Beginner’s Guide to Choosing your First Class with Las Vegas Bondage Classes.

If you’re trying to decide what class is best for you, don’t worry… that’s exactly why we created this guide, which we hope will give you some insight! We understand that choosing an appropriate class can be somewhat confusing if you haven’t previously dabbled in shibari before or this is your first dive into studying the art of Japanese rope bondage. We currently offer four different classes; each with its own purpose and we’ll be happy to go over each one with you here to ensure that you make the right decision when choosing your shibari class with us.

Preliminary Course

This is where your journey with LVBC begins if you have never booked a private, in-person shibari class with us before. The Preliminary Course is a mandatory virtual discovery session with your instructor that lasts about 15 minutes - and is required to be completed before attending your first private class or workshop.

We understand that for many of you reading this, this is probably your first introduction to shibari bondage and if we had to guess, you probably have more questions than answers at this point. The goal of this virtual course is to help answer some of your questions, put your mind at ease, and prepare you before heading into a private and personalized shibari class. Intended to be about 15 minutes long, this virtual session was created with a few purposes in mind:

  • You (our client) and the instructor have the chance to see each other, virtually meet, and give consent before the private hands-on class.

  • Go over the client’s application; discuss any potential triggers, personal ailments, class expectations, questions or concerns you may have.

  • Ensure that the location where the private class is intended to be held is safe, free of distractions, and conducive to learning.

  • Allow the instructor to personalize your private class based on what was discussed.

  • Make sure that this is something you actually want to move forward with!

The practice of shibari is an intimate, vulnerable, and potentially dangerous experience. It is imperative that you not only feel safe with your instructor, but are confident that they can help you achieve your desired goals and results. And sometimes, we understand that after taking the Preliminary Course you decide that maybe this whole rope bondage thing isn’t for you after all… and that’s okay too!

Single’s Beginner Class (Self-Tie)

Many individuals who embark on the shibari journey, often begin by learning rope tying techniques that can be performed by and on themselves. In fact, this is a great opportunity to feel the rope on your own skin, understand where the rope should (and shouldn’t rest), how tight the rope should be, what is good pain (and what is bad pain), and the best part is that you don’t need a partner to practice with. For many, tying can be a meditative experience, and being tied up releases oxytocin; the same chemical that is released when you give/receive a hug.

This results in anxiety reduction, significantly lower levels of stress and overall increased happy feelings.

Learning to tie on yourself has many benefits including:

  • You only need yourself and your rope, so you have the ability to practice anywhere!

  • Feel good and reduce stress by releasing oxytocin

  • This can be a meditative and calming practice.

  • You get first-hand experience to see where the rope is supposed to be placed on your body, what it should feel like, and how tight it should be.

  • In the event that you are getting tied up by someone else you’ll be able to identify the difference between good and bad pain and be aware if something feels off.

Many shibari enthusiasts began right here, with the simplicity of self-tie.

Single’s Beginner Class

We understand that everyone has a unique situation… Maybe you’re visiting Vegas on a business trip (and left your spouse at home) or you want to practice with another individual (that you don’t know) - which is exactly why we have set up the Single’s Beginner Class. The main difference between this class and the self-tie shibari class? This class comes with a rope assistant. So no, you won’t be tying yourself up, but rather the assistant. If you’re still unsure at this point whether the Single’s Beginner Self-Tie Class or this class with the rope assistant is the right match for you, we’ve outlined some great reasons to choose this class:

  • You want to learn to tie shibari bondage in a totally platonic and educational environment.

  • You want to learn to tie shibari bondage and have a partner but maybe they’re not with you and you don’t want to be put in an otherwise precarious situation.

  • You would like to surprise your partner with new found skills in the bedroom.

  • You want to learn to tie shibari bondage and don’t have a partner, but want to learn so you know what to do when the situation arises.

As the old saying goes - what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, right? We pride ourselves in being discrete; rest assured that your secret is safe with us.

Couple’s Beginner Experience

Finally, for those who don’t necessarily fall into either of the previous categories and have a partner who you want to learn with, work with, and explore shibari with - we recommend choosing the Couple’s Beginner Experience. If you’re visiting Las Vegas with your partner and want to try something you might not try back home or if you’re looking for a romantic and unforgettable Las Vegas date night, this might be the option for you if:

  • You have a partner that you plan on practicing with regularly.

  • You have multiple partners that you would like to practice with, separately.

  • You’re looking for an excellent way to enhance communication with your partner, add a little spice to your (sex) life, or master foundational shibari skills that you can build on.

  • You want a romantic Las Vegas date night, without having to leave your hotel.

Shibari is an excellent way to enhance communication, encourage teamwork, and also a great opportunity to learn something new together with your partner(s). We recommend reading this article by Carrie Borzillo on meditative bondage (as if you really needed more reasons to discover shibari with your partner), this helps to open one's eyes to shibari outside of sexuality. And even those of you who have a partner but are thinking “they’ll never do this with me”... it certainly doesn’t hurt to ask and be open about your desires.

When it really comes down to making your decision there’s no doubt that there is no right or wrong answer for which shibari class you should choose. Whether you are visiting fabulous Las Vegas or you’re a local, our promises to you are personalized and private shibari classes that require no previous experience, a totally discreet class that comes to you, and each of our beginner classes comes with a complimentary jute rope (which you can also purchase here). If you are looking for a sexy experience, an artistic flow, or a meditative practice we work with enthusiastic rope bondage pros who take pride in both their skill and art with the desire to share it with you right here in Sin City. We can’t wait to get knotty with you! <3
